Steel Away... with Inge King

German born sculptor Inge King, steals time. She looses herself in the molten steel, sharing her spirit - as they become one.  She is an icon in the Australian art world.  I can see why...

She is captivated by round sensuous forms.  Her process begins with sketches, then small scale models. Later she marries found objects into the supple metal. Frankly, I would love to collect her models, as they are equal works of art.  Besides, I think she's the cutest little thing!

Stephen Russell - Has me thinking of Christmas....

One of the things I used to look forward to en route to my office on & 76th. and Madison Avenue, was passing the windows of jeweler Stephen Russell.  To be exact, the shop was closed when I would arrive in the morning.  As time grew closer to 10 o'clock, I would make my 'morning constitution' for a cup of coffee.  Of course the coffee, was not part of the real story.  It was the outline.  The real story... seeing what pieces were being set up in the window for the days display.

Here's why... I adore beautiful gems, and they've got plenty of them.

A girl can dream - right!  Good night!

Stephen Russell

Greg Lauren, More than a pretty Ralph face

Sure, Greg Lauren is a handsome face who is also one of the 'go to' male models of Ralph Lauren"s many advertisements.  He exudes charisma, strength and intelligence.  Of course he is the nephew of Ralph Lauren.  Who cares about nepotism when it works - right!

True, he is also an actor and  husband of 'Showgirls' dancer Elizabeth Barkley.   Not to miss, a  Princeton graduate with a B.S in Art.    What you may not know is, he is a TALENTED artist.  Not a fly by night 'cut and paste' artist but a truly gifted artist.  Just as soon as you get hooked on his 'Batman' HERO series of illustrations (which are stunning, dark and rich), that his 'fashion non-fashion' exhibits steal your heart.

I remember seeing his 'Alterations' exhibit in New York, of clothing (mostly jackets, suits, shirts and coats) all manufactured from various thickness, color and texture of paper and thought "these are actually quite wearable".  That is as long as you walk between the raindrops and steer clear of any 'London Fog' "Pray for rain" ads.

Greg Lauren also designs and manufactures both Mens' and Women's lines which can found at Barneys' New York and Maxfields, Los Angeles.  The ranges consists of mostly outerwear of a 'highly deconstructed' nature.  A few constructed from old duffle bags.  At first glance, they appeared very 'Oliverish', producing images of clothing worn by someone down on their luck.  Yet there are aspects which just make them appear to be 'well loved'.  My hands down favorite was the white Tuxedo, classic from the from view.  Once the back is exposed you find a series of buckets immediately identifying it as a 'straight jacket'!

When the model music stops, Greg Lauren and his creative genius will definitely have a chair!

Don't miss the next exhibit! Just check your matches at the door!

Tiffany & Co. - the Suite life

Beginning this past June, Tiffany & Co. began welcoming guest to their brand new Suite.  How fitting, Tiffany's legendary jewel box is just down the street.  The luxury theme 1,700 square foot suite is available for a mere $8,500 USD per luscious evening.  True to form, it appears (because I haven not actually been in the room), all the accouterments you would expect from the St. Regis Hotels are present.

John Loring, Tiffany & Co., design director emeritus  incorporated authentic gemstones in the crystal chandeliers, and sconces - true to Tiffany aesthetic and culture.  Glamour  is turned out!  Who can't imagine Holly Golightly opting to have breakfast in bed, instead of noshing on a croissant in front of the store?

Simply put... it's pretty fly! You just have to love 'Tiffany blue'.  Forget the chocolates, I'd want a brand new blue box on my pillow every night.  THAT would guarantee me suite dreams.

I wonder, if the room key is designed by Elsa Peretti?  Wouldn't that be smashing darling?  I imagine a sensuous turn of sterling silver fashioned in the shape of 'T' dangling from a silk cord.  Very similar to that of the Tiffany "T" clip ballpoint pen.  Of course, The key could be worn as jewelry during the day.

Ooh, I would so love to have a party here in the midst of a snow storm.  With the snowflakes catching the lights on Fifth Avenue, you would swear they are dancing diamonds.  I think I'm going to need a bigger purse!

Beyonce - From across the pond...

Twitter broke records with the Video Music Awards announcement of Bey's 'baby bump' reveal.  Tweets were coming in at over 8,000 per minute.  WOW!  Thant's pretty amazing huh, considering people announce pregnancies daily.

Moving on... Beyonce puddle jumps across the pond... these stunning images appear in the September 2011 UK edition of Bazaar.

Okay, now back to the music... Oh yes, I almost forgot #happy30thbirthday Beyonce.  I hope all your dreams come true!  It certainly appears as though they are...

Daphne Guinness - Pulls out all the stout for F.I.T.

From her platinum-and-black striped hair to her towering 10-inch heels, from her to-die-for couture collection to her amazing jewelry, Daphne Guinness completely embodies the rarified personal style of a fashion icon. “She is one of the – if not the – most stylish women living,” says designer and film director Tom Ford.

Daphne Guinness will reveal how Guinness, who is not only a serious collector of couture but also a creative force in her own right, uses fashion to transform herself. As her friend, art historian, John Richardson, puts it: “She’s the object of her own creativity.  Her persona is her own masterpiece.”

For those of us to adore fashion, and staying up on tastemakers with an abundance of originality,  the pattern for this Fashion Institute of Technology, exhibit was cut just for us! Daphne Guinness is a women of original style who walks to the gentle hum of her stilettos and death defying platforms tapping the streets, in the style struck jungle.

The soundtrack accompanying her gracious walk would be a hybrid of Chaka Khans "I'm every woman", anything Madonna, Lady Gaga and some U2 thrown in for good vibe and measure.

I would as well love to see the infamous 'never to be sold' fashion estate of the late Isabella Blow.  A collection that was to be sold Fall 2010 via Christie's Auction.  A collection full of Phillip Treacy hats, Manolo Blahnik footwear and glorious McQueens.  Alexanders of course not Stevens!

Seriously, beyond the bits that are written about her, and 140 character post read on Twitter I do not know who she really is.  I would love to sit with Ms. Guinness over London Fog, both us wearing t-shirts and jeans and just talk.   Beyond the fantasy frocks being a second skin,  I almost feel the clothing is a shield from the world.  I welcome to know who Daphne Guinness really is.

So Daphne, if you want to chill and talk - you know where to find me.  And yes, I still would love to see your closet!
